Jack retired from Mick-or-Mack after 42 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church. He was also an avid golfer and member of Spotswood Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Virginia Barr, of 57 years, whom he married on October 29, 1939. He is also survived by two great-nieces, Deborah A. Kelley of Harrisonburg and Vicki K. Gooch of Efland, North Carolina, who were like his own daughters. He also leaves his stepmother, Ruby Thacker; two sisters, Florence Barr and husband, Lee; Margaret Knicely and husband, Lloyd; two brothers, Paul Thacker and wife, Hazel; George Thacker and wife, Nell; a brother-in-law, Jared Dunlap; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lena Earhart, Beasie Taylor and Virginia Dunlap.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Tuesday morning from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Jones and Rev. David Nankivell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mossy Creek Church Cemetery.
The members of the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 this (Monday) evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church or the Hospice Unit at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in his memory. Active pallbearers will be Don Knicely, L. David Knicely Jr., Tom Thacker, Frank Thacker, Samuel Taylor, Jay Shoemaker, Charles Jameson III and Richard Thacker.
