Marguerite Umstead was born in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, the daughter of Howard Raymond Ingraham and Ruth (Pepper) Ingraham, who were primarily farmers. She had three sisters, Wilma, Ruth and Mary, and two brothers, Raymond, and Warren (who did not survive childhood). She married John "Jack" Joseph Shea, who was in the US Navy, around 1945 and they had two sons, Patrick and David. They were divorced in 1951 in Valusia, Florida. Later she married Claude A. Umstead, a roofer, with whom she had another son, William, and a daughter nicknamed "Bunny." Upon being widowed when her second husband died in a tragic roofing accident, she moved to Longwood, Florida and bought a home across from her parents, who had retired there from their home in New York State. She continued to raise her children in Longwood, was a member of the Auxilliary of the Longwood Fire Department, the Longwood Baptist Church, and the local PTA. Tragedy struck when her son David was struck by a car and died while still a juvenile. However, she had a strong constitution, a wonderful sense of humor and always maintained a very upbeat and positive outlook on life. When she grew older, after the passing of her parents, she moved in with her son Bill and his family in Macon, Georgia, and lived the last 14 years of her life there. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt. She was especially close to her older sister Wilma Merrill (Ingraham) McMaster. She will always be remembered with a great deal of love and respect. Survivors included her sons Patrick Shea and wife Michelle of Huntersville, North Carolina, William Umstead and wife Charlene of Macon, Georgia, daughter Evelyn DeMarco and husband Tony of Oviedo, Florida, several grandchildren, and a sister, Ruth Vonderlin of Santa Clara, California. Snow's Memorial Chapel on Cherry St. in Macon, Georgia were in charge of burial arrangements.
