"Fort Riley, Kan. -- Christopher Eric Cutchall, 30, of 6184-1 Pickett Place, and formerly of McConnellsburg, Pa., was killed Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Iraq.
Born Nov. 8, 1972, in McConnellsburg, he was a son of Paul E. and Cindy L. Cutchall of McConnellsburg and Cynthia L. Hann Ketchens of Big Pool, Md.
Mr. Cutchall was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
He and his wife, Donna D. Fisher Cutchall, were married on Jan. 14, 1999.
He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 1, 1991, and continued toward his advanced individual training where he was awarded the Military Occupational Skill of (76C) Commo Specialist. He was then sent to Fort Benning, Ga., where he completed airborne training. He was then sent to Frankfurt, Germany, from May 16, 1992, until May 16, 1995, where he attended numerous deployments, one of which included Turkey. After his tour in Germany, he was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, until 2000 where he was assigned to Charlie Troop 110th Calvary. During his tour at Fort Hood, he
completed a Primary Leadership Development Course, Combat Life Savers Course and he also earned the Calvary Spurs which is one of the hardest and most honorable for the Calvary Soldiers. He then reclassified into another military occupational skill of (19D) Calvary Scout which was his current job. He was then sent to Fort Riley, where he was assigned to the 4th Calvary 1st Infantry Division. During his tour in Kansas, he completed his basic non-commissioned officer course in Fort Knox, Ky., in 2001. His many awards and decorations include: the U.S. Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, U.S. Army Overseas Ribbon, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2 awards), Armed Forces Explosion Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal, U.S. Army Achievement Medal (6 awards), U.S. Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), Meritorious Service (1 award), The Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his parents and wife, surviving are two sons, Nathaniel P. and Logan D., both of Fort Riley; and a brother, Terry L. of McConnellsburg.
Service will be at 11a.m. Saturday in Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg. Pastors Alan Wilson and Henry Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg.
Military service will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to CHE Credit Union in the name of Cindy Cutchall, 414 Phoenix Drive, Chambersburg 17201."

He grew up in the woods here hunting and fishing, so he knew how to shoot and how to sneak, and the Army built on that," said his father, Paul Cutchall.An Army scout, Cutchall had been in Iraq for less than a month when he was killed Sept. 29, 2003, by an explosive device west of Baghdad. The 30-year-old Cutchall had been in the military since 1991 and was stationed at Fort Riley.Cutchall, who grew up in McConnellsburg, Pa., planned to make the military his career, his father said. He had been to Germany, Turkey and most recently was in Kuwait."He was a firm believer that everybody should serve their country," Paul Cutchall said.Cutchall is survived by his wife and two sons, ages 4 and 6.
