Scott W. Mason died peacefully at his home in Oakland Twp., November 21, 2012. He was 53 years old. Scott was born March 10, 1959, in Albion, Michigan, to Enid (nee Albertson) and Basil Mason.

Scott grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1977. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Oakland University in 1983 and graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University in 1995.

Scott was a teacher of English and Speech for Avondale High School in Auburn Hills from 1990-2011. Scott was an innovative and dedicated teacher who took his chosen profession very seriously and was committed to challenging his students and making sure they saw the real world applications of his lessons. He positively influenced many of his students' lives throughout his teaching career. During his career, in addition to teaching English and Speech, he taught Drivers' Education, was a golf coach, was the WAHS radio station advisor, and sponsored many other clubs and activities. He will be a greatly missed member of the Avondale family.

Scott waited a long time to become a father and when he finally did, he embraced the challenges and responsibilities of being a father with every bit of energy he possessed. From the very beginning of his daughters' lives, Scott stressed the importance of reading, learning, and education. One of his favorite activities was reading to the girls.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, whom he married July 16th, 2005, daughters, Sarah and Natalie and mother, Enid Mason. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Ann) Mason, sister, Susan (Stephen) Kaagan, father and mother-in-law, Charles and Margaret Streetman, brother-in-law, Charles Streetman, nieces and nephew, Paige, Charlie and Emily, extended family and many friends. Scott is preceded in death by his father, Basil Mason.

A Memorial Gathering will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Saturday, December 1, 2012, 2-5pm.
