John was convicted in 1922 of rape/incest against his daughter, Claire Bernice Crowley. He spent 6 years in the Idaho State Pen. John was paroled 1928. A condition of his parole was that he was not to return to his family. However, he is found on the 1930 Oregon census living with his wife and three of his children.
