Kathleen Lile Alexander, age 90, died of heart failure Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Village Oaks Alzheimer Unit in Melbourne, FL.

She was born February 14, 1918 in Demopolis, AL, the daughter of Evan Bruner Lile and Dessie Bland Lile. Kathleen's parents moved to Leitchfield after she was born. Upon graduating from Leitchfield High School, she worked as a beautician. On August 16, 1939, she married Elliot A. Alexander. At the onset of WWII, the couple moved to New Orleans, LA, to pursue studies at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. They were active in USO activities, and became members of Coliseum Place Baptist Church.

Kathleen began her life's work as a professional dietician managing Campbellsville College's food service. She also served as a dietician and manager of multiple public school cafeterias in Broward County, FL., and worked for the New Orleans Parish school system.

Kathleen sang soprano in church choirs, most of which were under the musical direction of her husband. She was an active member with Community Presbyterian Church in Deerfield Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elliot Allen Alexander.

She is survived by one daughter, Jane Lile Alexander Penick (Russell) of Rockledge, FL; two sons, John Allen Alexander of Laguna Beach, CA and Charles Reid Alexander (JoEllen DeVilbiss) of Champaign, IL; five grandchildren, Russell Elliot Penick (Diane), Michael John Penick, Kathleen Penick Thonen (Todd), Erik Benjamin Alexander (Carrie), and Marc Ryan Alexander; four great-grandchildren, Sandra Jane Penick Fitz (William), Sharon Ann Penick, Rebekah Jane Thonen, and Jacob Daniel Thonen.

A memorial service will be scheduled at Leitchfield Liberty Baptist Church in September or early October.
