Merlene Tidwell, who started her teaching career at Lee Junior High School in 1960 when Mr. Fuller was principal, remembered him as a man devoted to his teachers and students.

"He always wanted each of us to be successful," Ms. Tidwell said. "He was the standard to which we compared all our other principals. He was quite a man and quite a good principal."

Patty Fuller , Mr. Fuller's wife since 1977 and a 36-year teacher in the Grand Prairie school district , said she knew of her husband's fantastic reputation long before she met him.

I called him Mr. Fuller on our first three dates , she said.
