"Buck"-birth name Ora Eldon Holloway, was born 21 January 1917, near Eagleville in Harrison County, Missouri. His parents were Uriah "Scott" and Ethel Dorothy York Holloway. His mother Ethel died when Buck was only 3 years old. He was then raised by not only his father, but also his Uncle Jim Holloway, his Grandparents George & Sarah York, and eventually, his step mother Lucille Davenport Holloway, when his father remarried.

Buck attended the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints and country school at High Point in Harrison County.

After school, Buck farmed with his father and then joined the United States Army on 24 April, 1941, where he served as a mechanic during World War II. He was discharged on 22 January 1946. Buck then returned to farming.

On 3 February 1948, Buck married Helen Hartman in Jackson, Minnesota. They were the parents of 5 children: Sharon (m. Ken Crouse), Patricia (m. Steve Gawley), Sandra (m. Kent Richards), Becky (m. Dean Muhs) & Bill (m. Janice). Buck enjoyed taking his family fishing and telling fish stories. He also enjoyed animals, especially horses, and enjoyed going to coffee & Sunday breakfasts.

Buck was a Supervisor for Shelby County, Iowa for 8 years; a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and also the Masonic Lodge for many years.

Buck died in Manning, Iowa on 1 September 2008, at age 91 years, 7 months, and 11 days. He is survived by his children and their families and his wife of 60 years.
