Richard B. Wood,"Woody", Oct. 6, 1921 - Nov. 6, 2011, resident of Los Gatos, passed away at home on November 6, 2011 at the age of 90. He was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from Polytech High School. Woody became a pilot and served in the Marines during WWII. He flew the F4U Corsair as a member of Marine Squadron VMF-451, assigned to carrier based duty aboard the USS Bunker Hill. After active duty he continued to serve in the reserves, teaching flight school and training in the early jet fighters. He was also featured in the 2008 documentary, "Blue Devils", which chronicled the adventures of his squadron during wartime. In 1956 Woody started a successful 35 yr career with Allstate Insurance. He was a dedicated family man, and encouraged his sons in sports and outdoor activities. In 1980 he became Scoutmaster of boyscout troop 501. He had a lifelong love of photograghy and travel, taking trips with his wife, Jeanne, to varius parts of the world. At home, he enjoyed tending to his fruit trees and vegetable garden and would take daily walks on the hill with Jeanne. Woody is survived by his loving wife of 68 yrs, Jeanne, his sons Richard, Kenneth, and Jason, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Services to be scheduled.
