LEXINGTON - Funeral services for Sampson Melvin (Sam) Arant, Jr., 81, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012 at St. David's Lutheran Church, West Columbia, SC 29169 with interment to follow in the church's cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington, SC. Memorials may be made to St. David's Lutheran Church, 132 St. David's Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, or to the American Legion Post 6, 200 Pickens St., Columbia, SC 29205, Mr. Arant was born March 7, 1931, and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 23, 2012. He was the son of the late Sampson Melvin Arant, Sr. and Lessie Rikard Arant. He was a tool and die maker with United Tool and Michelin Tire Company where he retired. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Sam was a member of the Woodman of the World, American Legion Post 6, Lutheran Men in Mission, and an avid Gamecock fan. He was also a former member of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Arant is survived by his sister, Merlene (Billy Joe) Wolfe of Sandy Run, and brothers W. D. "Don" (Myra) Arant of, Lexington, SC and Gerald (Janice) Arant of Gilbert, SC. and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Dowry Arant, and his brother Charles L. Arant. He was a beloved brother and uncle and friend to everyone. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by all of his wonderful friends and family who loved him dearly.
