Visitation will be 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.

Donna passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen at the age of 80.

Donna Mae Smith was born September 1, 1932, in Britton, SD to Clarence and Emily "Emma" (Eichorst) Smith. She was raised on the family farm near Kidder and attended rural Marshall County schools. She graduated from Kidder High School.

On May 16, 1953, Donna married Roland M. Christensen in Webster, SD. They made their home on a farm two miles south of Havana, ND. Donna was active in the farming. Every spring she would get 500 chickens which she tended and cared for until selling them in the fall of the year. In addition to helping on the farm, Donna also worked at Buhl's of Britton for many years and at International Multi Foods bird seed company in Forman, ND for a couple of winters. They retired from farming and after living on the farm for a few years, moved to Britton in 1986. Donna worked for a number of years as a custodian for the Britton School, and also the Marshall Manor (now Wheatcrest Hills). Roland passed away on November 24, 1989, and Donna continued to make her home in Britton. She moved to Spruce Court in May of 2011.

Donna had been a member of the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church when they lived in the Kidder and Havana areas. After moving to Britton, she joined St. John's Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader. Donna will be remembered for her sharp wit, keen sense of humor and always speaking what was on her mind. She had an amazing ability to see the lighthearted side of even difficult situations. At a time when most people would want to take it easy, Donna took in a great-nephew, Jimmy Smith and became a mother to him. He and his son, Jordan, have been a source of joy and pride to Donna in her later years.

Grateful for having shared her life are two sons: Keith (Darla) Christensen of Elbow Lake, MN; Steve (Wanda) Smith of Maplewood, MN; two grandchildren: Melissa (Mike) Tvedt; Lisa (Sean) Twomey; three great-grandchildren: Gus, Delaney and Jack Tvedt; two sisters: Dorothy Rygg of California; Nyla (Clayton) Mogaard, of Moorehead, MN; a brother: Larry (Rosie) Smith, also of California; and a number of nieces, nephews and their families.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a son, David "Sputz" Christensen, three brothers: Robert, Dale and Gordon Smith; and three sisters: Virginia Rhodella, Avis Gontella and Gloria Smith.
