Eligah "Catfish" Ricks, husband of Maggie Jacobs Ricks, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born July 5, 1953, in Sumter County, he was the oldest of eight children born to the late Robert Lee and Omelia Bradley Ricks.

At an early age, he joined St. Mark United Methodist Church. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and was employed with FCX, Modern Dye and Whitaker's Cabinet Co.

His memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Maggie M. Ricks of the home; one son, Deon A. Ricks of Sumter; two sisters, Shirley (Willie) Lesane and Linda (Sylvester) Moses, both of Mayesville; four brothers, Abraham (Ruby) Ricks of Sumter, Marion (Elouise) Ricks, James (Gladys) Ricks and Robert L. Ricks Jr., all of Mayesville; grandmother, Grace McNeil of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven aunts; seven uncles; eight sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including Bill Coakley.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Ricks Benbow; a brother, Louis Ricks; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobs; sister-in-law, Bertie Rhames; and three brothers-in-law, Willie Morant, Henry Wilson and Prenell Mitchell.
