Myron G. Tomblyn, age 78 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 1:36 AM Saturday, July 11, 2009 at his home. He had been in declining health.

He was born December 6, 1930 at Buckhannon, a son of the late Ira B. Tomblyn and the late Bessie Foster Tomblyn. On December 18, 1955 at Vienna, WV he was married to Sue C. Davidson Tomblyn who preceded him in death on March 17, 2008.

Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Garland Tomblyn, Richard Tomblyn, Ira J. Tomblyn and Robert Tomblyn and two sisters, Edith Glass and Virginia Reed.

Myron was a graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School, a Veteran of the United States Army and later graduated from Glenville State College. In 1959 he graduated with honors from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. The Tomblyn Family moved to Elkins in 1965 and in 1968, along with his late wife Sue, established the Tomblyn Funeral Home where he maintained an active and important role in the operation of the funeral home until the time of his death. He was an active member of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association and on June 19, 2002 was a recipient of the "Charles E. Dodd Award" Funeral Director of the Year. He had been an active member of the Elkins Randolph County Chamber of Commerce serving as President for four terms and chairing the Home Show for many years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Randolph County Convention and Visitors Bureau in 1990, later serving three terms as President. In 1985 he was chosen Outstanding Businessman of Elkins by Beta Alpha Beta Business Fraternity of Davis and Elkins College. In 2004 he was a recipient of the Distinguished Citizen of the Year given by the Allohak Council of the Boy Scouts of America and in 2008, Myron and Sue Tomblyn were honored as Businessman and Woman of the year by the Davis and Elkins College Chapter of Sigma Beta Delta International Business Honorary Society. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkins, a member of BPOE Lodge No. 1135, Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge 116, Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM, Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 35 Royal Arch Masons, Osiris Shrine of Wheeling, Tygart Valley Shrine Club and the Pilgrim Commandary. Myron was devoted to the profession of funeral service for nearly fifty years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren at the family cabin and attending performances of the American Mountain Theater.

Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Monday, July 20th he will be moved to the First United Methodist Church where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley, Rev. Barry R. Moll and Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley will officiate and interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.
