Memorial services for Edward J. Sperling were held at St. Augustine's Church, Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. William Cross in charge. Mr. Sperling died suddenly Thursday evening, May 3, at his home in Joplin, Missouri, following a heart attack. He was born at De Witt, January 19 (sic), 1888, attended and graduated from the local High School and later was a student at an electrical school in Kansas City, Mo. For many years he was a traveling sales representative of the Bixby Shoe Polish Co. In 1942, Mr. Sperling organized and operated the Sperling Trailer Sales at Joplin and had active management of the business until the close of 1955 when he retired. He was married in 1935 to Miss Bernice Stager, of Cleveland, Ohio, who, with four sisters and two brothers, now survive his passing. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery under the direction of the Venrick Funeral Home.
