CARDEN, WADE HAMPTON - beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2006 in Houston, Texas.

He was the only son of William Elvis Carden and Annie Elizabeth Wade who owned the Carden Farm, a beautiful 300 acres across the Clinch River from Clinton, Tennessee.

Wade was born in 1910 at home on the farm. He enjoyed a idyllic childhood as one of five children of a very successful and prominent father and devoted mother.

He was a graduate of Clinton High School in 1929 and of the University of Tennessee in 1933, where he was active in R.O.T.C.

He went on to earn a masters degree from Harvard Business School in 1935, and worked for Colonial Stores (based in Atlanta, Georgia) before and after WWII.

In 1936 he married Agnes Jones, a school teacher from Knoxville whom he had met in church in Clinton.

Early in 1941, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army. During the war he played a key role in the office of the Quartermaster General supplying our troops all over the world, and as a Lieutenant Colonel received the Legion of Merit at the end of the war.

He had an outstanding career in the grocery-store business and later with the credit-card division of American Express.

He was an attentive and caring father of three children and four grandchildren.

He is survived by: his wife of 70 years, Agnes Lucille Jones Carden (originally of Knoxville); sister, Anne Lee Wilbanks and husband Jim of Knoxville; children: daughter, Carole Ann Butin Qumsieh and husband Elias of Houston; son, Dr. Wade Douglas Carden and wife, Lynn Hammond Carden of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Allen Thomas Carden of Newbury Park, CA.; grandsons, Mark Butin; Wade Butin, his wife, Laurilyn and their son Andrew Butin all of Honolulu, Hawaii; grand-daughters, Amy Carden Suardi, husband Dr. Enrico Suardi and daughters Sofia and Virginia all of Arlington, Virginia, and Jenny Carden, currently of Cordoba, Argentina.

Funeral services will be held in Clinton, Tennessee at Holley Gamble
