Ellen E. (Kallos) Parmley, 92, of Grand Island, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, surrounded by family at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Parmley was born Feb. 3, 1920, at Grand Island to John and Georgina (Malonis) Kallos.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Parmley on Jan. 26, 2001.

Survivors of her immediate family include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Paula of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael of Utica, and David and Dianne of Grand Island; a daughter, Cynthia Arnold of Grand Island; and two sisters, Anna Hartley of Bradenton, Fla., and Rena Link of Duluth, Minn.

Also left to cherish her memory are seven grandchildren, Robert, Christina, Jill, David, Jeff, Michael and Alaina; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ellen was raised and educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1938. In 1944, Ellen went to work at the Grand Island Cornhusker Army Ammunition plant where she operated a "donkey" and where she met Robert. They were married on March 21, 1947, in Grand Island. Ellen and Robert purchased Ellen's Flower Basket in 1963, which she operated until 1998.

Ellen enjoyed league bowling, collecting antiques, and serving on the Women's Chamber of Commerce and Women's Business Association. She participated in various events sponsored by the Greek Orthodox Church and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. But Ellen's real passion, when not behind the counter at her flower shop, was buying and refurbishing old homes which she then rented to the public.

Ellen will be remembered by all who came into contact with her as savvy business women with a big heart. She was known in the community for her generosity and always having time for the less fortunate.

In addition to her husband, Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgina Kallos; and two brothers, Chris and Nick Kallos.
