Henry E. Midden Jr., 78, of Springfield died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Springfield, the son of Henry E. and Louisa Sommer Midden Sr. He married Rita F. Pflum in 1946 in Springfield.

Mr. Midden, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, was an electrician. He worked for various electrical contractors, including Babiak Electric and Mansfield Electric, for more than 20 years. He also worked for the Illinois State Historical Library for 18 years and operated the Sound and Light Program, retiring in 1986. He owned and operated Midden Radio and TV Service from 1951 to 1986.

He was a member of IBEW Local Union 193, the American Legion, the Illinois State Historical Society, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a graduate of Springfield High School and the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.

Survivors: wife, Rita; four sons, six daughters, 19 grandchildren; a brother, Charles J. Midden of Springfield; a sister, Julia Whiteleather of Hollister, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Patrick Render CSV officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
