Shelby Graham, 89, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born July 2, 1923, in Itawamba County to Walter Cleveland and Mattie Bell Wood Graham. He was a member of Harden's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served as a Tech 4 Sgt. First Class in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was part of the Engineer Combat Battalion attached to the 11th Armored Division under General George Patton, 3rd Army. He moved to Memphis and worked for Sam Beltz Upholstery for 12 years. Then, he moved to Houston, MS, where he worked at Jackson Manufacturing for three years. He returned to his native Fairview where he operated Graham Grocery for 11 years and opened Graham Furniture Manufacturing, which he ran for approximately 18 years. After retirement, he worked part-time at Hardee's in Fulton. An avid conversationalist, he enjoyed gardening and having fun with people.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Terry Paul Graham officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ravonell Collier Graham, whom he married February 13, 1943; one son, Melvin Graham (Donna) of Fulton; one daughter, Janice VanAsselberg (Frank) of Fulton; four grandsons, Jason Graham of Tupelo, Ben VanAsselberg (Nichole) of Fulton, Clint VanAsselberg (Noell) of Tremont, and Tyler Graham of Fulton; one brother, Elvin Graham (Sue) of Fairview; one sister, Earnesteen Wilson of Fulton; two great-granddaughters, Novalee VanAsselberg and Caroline VanAsselberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Eucellas Graham, Cudellas Graham, Orville Graham, Leroy Graham, Eldridge Graham, and Walter C. Graham, Jr.; three sisters, Vista Graham Howell, Lois Graham Beam, and Ruth Graham Howell; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Jason Graham, Ben VanAsselberg, Clint VanAsselberg, and Tyler Graham.

Visitation will be from 1 p. m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
