Dr. Henry Webster Barrier was a general practitioner in the Cabarrus County area for over 54 years. He died at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital on July 15, 1976.
His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church, where he was a member, and interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The Rev. T.C. Plexico will officiate.
The family will receive from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight at Wilkinson Funeral Home and will be at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Joseph N. Fries, 157 Palaside Drive NW, during the remainder of the interim.
They request memorials be directed to the St. James Building Fund or to the Chapel Fund at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Barrier, who lived at 2837 Central Drive, was born in Mt. Pleasant January 13, 1891, son of the late William Mathias and Mrs. Anna G. Smith Barrier.
He received his education at Mt. Pleasant Collegiate Institute, Weaver College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chicago Medical School, and the U.S. Veterans School of Neuropsychiatry.
He interned at West End Hospital at Sheridan, Wyoming, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, D.C., Edward Hines Hospital of Neuropsychiatry, and was on the staff of Cabarrus Memorial Hospital since 1941.
He was a life member of the American Psychiatric Association, Cabarrus County Medical Association, North Carolina Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Tri-State Medical Association.
During World War I, he was a member of U.S. Army Base Hospital No. 11, AEF, in France.
His principal interest had been in the field of rheumatology-arthritis.
Dr. Barrier's wife, Octa Vayne Earnhart died in 1970. He was survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Betty Fries of Concord and Mrs. Kathryn Hayes of Winston-Salem; a brother Elmore Barrier of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.
