Vernon Horton, 86, passed away Monday (April 23, 2001) at Methodist Medical Center.

He was born November 27, 1914 in Clinchport, Va.

He retired as a State of Virginia Mine Inspector.

He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Etta Collier Horton; and brother, J.M. Horton.

Survivors include his wife, Dora McKamey Horton, Clinton; daughter, Janice Sue Hollenbeck, Richmond, Va.; sons, Bob Horton and wife, Sammie, Jonesville, Va., and Edward Jett, Clinton; grandchildren, Brian Hollenbeck, R.G. Horton, Susan Anderson, Jeana Horton, Kamie and Timothy Jett; great-grandson, Parker Anderson; brother, Hagan Horton and wife, Lois, Coeburn, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton.

Services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Garvin Walls, the Rev. Kenneth Ellis and the Rev. Brad Scott officiating.

The interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.
