Frederick W. Behnke, Ill Since Spring, Taken by Death


Frederick William Behnke, aged 56 years, a resident of Alpena 48 years, died at 3:30 o'clock Sunday morning at his home, 903 Fourth avenue, following an illness since spring.
Mr. Behnke was born December 23, 1879 in West Prussia Germany, and when 8 years old came to Alpena with his parents, since which time he has continuously made his home here. He was a mason by trade and had constructed a number of buildings in the city.
Surviving Mr. Behnke are his widow; nine children, Mrs. Herman Doede of Gladwin; Mrs. Nelson Smith, Alpena; Lawrence Behnke of Detroit; Gertrude, Virginia. Charlotte, Roland, Ocsar and Richard Behnke all at home; his mother, Mrs. Gotlieb Behnke, Alpena; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Davis and Miss Laura Behnke, Alpena; and Mrs. Henry Grose, Detroit; and four brother, John and Reinhold Behnke of Alpena; Emil Behnke, Pontiac and Paul Behnke of Detroit.
Funeral services have not been arranged

Funeral services for Frederick W. Behnke, aged 56 years, well known resident of Alpena for 48 years were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home, 903 Fourth avenue and at 2:30 o'clock at First German Baptist church. Rev Walter C. Damrau officiated at the services, assisted by Rev. J. N. Richardson who recited the prayer. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
Acting as pallbearers were Charles Vosa, Ernest Thorn, Frank Huessner, Raleigh Ledford, Reinold Sweinke and Fred Padd.
During the services at the home Rev. and Mrs. J.N. Richardson sang a hymn and at the church services they also sang a vocal duet and the church choir sang a hymn.
Those present were from out-of-town included Mr. Behnke's daughter, Mrs. Herman Doede, Gladwin; his son, Lawrence Behnke and Mrs. Behnke, Detroit; two brothers, Emil Behnke of Pontiac; Paul Behnke of Redford; his sister, Mrs. Henry Grosse and her son Douglas, of Utica, and Mrs. John Heller of Rogers City.
Mr. Behnke died Sunday morning at 3;30 o'clock at his home following as extended illness.
Mr. Behnke was practically a lifelong member of the German Baptist church and was always active in all it affairs. he was a deacon of the church for 30 years and for a number of years acted as superintendent of the Sunday School.
