Joan Ellen Meeks, 88, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at her home.

She was born August 2, 1924 in Robbinsville, Minnesota to Joseph A. and Melita Amy Sporhase Schmidt.

On April 19, 1945, Joan married Isaiah "Jack" Meeks in Santa Barbara, California. They have been married 68 years.

She was very active in the Catholic Community and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Joan organized the first GSA troop in Sunset. She served in the PTA, taught adult reading and volunteered teaching disabled children. She enjoyed fishing, camping and reading.

Joan is survived by her husband, Jack, Clinton; three sons, Howard J. (Kathie) Meeks, West Point; Joseph V. (Dee) Meeks, Ogden; one daughter, Margaret E. (Buddy) Buchanan, Drakesboro, KY; one daughter-in-law, Colleen Meeks, Helper; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard F. (JoAnne E.) Schmidt, Arlington, TX; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Fredric J., one brother, Vernon J., and one sister, Melita M.

The family will meet with friends Monday, November 26th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

Cremation entrusted to Lindquist's Crematory.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Ogden Regional Medical Center and Encompass Hospice for their help and compassion and Dr. Greg Almony for his care and friendship shown toward our mother.
