James O. McKinney of Fayetteville died Wednesday in the Baptist Hospital in Nashville following a long illness. He was 78 years old.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home with Eugene Peden of Nashville and Max Johnson, minister of the Washington Street Church of Christ in Fayetteville, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. McKinney served on the board of directors of the Fayetteville Electric System for 20 years and retired in 1965 from Finley and McKinney Builders Supply Company, a company in Fayetteville that he co-founded in April, 1946, with Robert Finley.

A native of Marshall County, he was the son of the late John B. and Rose Ann Wakefield McKinney and was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Towry McKinney; a son, James L. McKinney; a son-in-law, Pete Hines, all of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren, Vickie Ann Hines, Nashville, Larry Hines, Murfreesboro, Ann Marie McKinney and Linda Ruth McKinney, Fayetteville.
