Harry was born on July 3, 1929, almost being what he would call a firecracker baby, missing the fourth by just a few hours. He was born in Lewiston, Idaho, to Harry and Addie Wickersham Banks. He grew up in Lewiston and Clarkston, Idaho, graduating from high school in 1947. In 1950, he entered the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years, being honorably discharged in 1954. He married Helen Nix in 1954 prior to his discharge from the Navy and they moved to California before coming to Klamath Falls in 1963. Harry worked for Weyerhaeuser Co. for a period of time and then began a career with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1989.
Harry was a member of the Church of Christ on Nile St., where he served as song leader, and was a former deacon at the Wantland Church of Christ. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Letter Carriers. He enjoyed fishing, and hunting, especially elk in Eastern Oregon, reading and watching western movies. Most of all, he enjoyed telling stories and was known for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife Helen; children and their spouses John and Channell Banks of Springfield, Ore., Cathy and Jim Stern of Eugene, Ore., and Karen and Dale Ellis of Klamath Falls; grandchildren Christina, Ginny, Laura, Glen, Crystal, Amy, Amanda and Aaron; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, and one son Michael Banks.
