Dr. John "Jack" Trodahl, 83 years, formerly of Sturgeon Bay and Egg Harbor, died at his home in Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday, October 27, 2012, succumbing to a rare neuromuscular disease that deteriorated his health over a period of many years.
Jack was born in Sturgeon by, June 18, 1929 to Marvin and Agnes Trodahl. He attended public school in Sturgeon Bay and, later in Egg Harbor after the family moved there in 1939 and established a family grocery business.
Jack was a 1947 graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School and earned a BA degree from St. Olaf College in 1951. After a tour in the U.S. Air Force, he attended dental school at the University of Minnesota, earning his DDS in 1960. After several years of general practice, Jack entered a residency specialty in 1966 and becoming board certified in 1968.
He was later elected as a Director of the American Board of Oral Pathology, and served as its president in 1986.
Jack's primary career was the Department of Veterans Affairs. During the last 13 years of his tenure, he was assigned to the VA Central Office in Washington, D.C. where, as Director of Dental Plans and Programs, he helped monitor 200+ dental clinics in the VA medical system.
On September 19, 1954 he married Irene Nadeau in Tokyo, Japan. Irene died April 27, 2012 in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Jack is survived by daughter, Marcia (Charles) Willhite of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter, Susan (Kyle) Dorang of Titusville, Florida; four grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, and Tyler Dorang; and Hannah Willhite; and his great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Jack's life will be held in Sturgeon Bay in the spring of 2013 at Bay View Lutheran Church. Huehns Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
