Mr. Foster was born at North Liberty, Mercer county, on May 9, 1827. He lived there during the earlier portion of his life and moved to Plum township thirty-eight years ago. He was a farmer by occupation and one of the most substantial and best-liked men of his community. He was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca T. McFaddden. She survives him, with these children: Mrs. Hannah Lavely, Meadville; Mrs. Martha Bacon, Olympia, Wash.; Mrs. Dora Tompsett, Tidioute; Mrs. Edra M. Currance, Parsons, W.Va., and W.B. Foster, Diamond. One son, Ambrose D. Foster, is dead. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded the aged gentleman to the grave.

When the War of the Rebellion was at its height Mr. Foster enlisted as a member of Company I, 142d Pennsylvania Volumteers, and served for three years, being honorably discharged at the conclusion of the war in May, 1865. He was a consistent Christian for many years preceeding his death.
