Magdalena immigrated with her husband Peter Paul to the area eventually known as Conway, Arkansas. She raised her family in Conway, but eventually, she and her husband ran afoul of those who wanted to make their county dry. Their vineyard was declared illegal. Two drunken assailants arrived at their home seeking alcohol and Peter Loetscher. They attacked her when Peter could not be found. Her son went to get Peter while she tried to stave off the attack. As soon as Peter arrived, all their efforts were turned on him. He was beaten nearly to death, dragged into court while barely alive, stripped of his land rights, and died of injuries a few days later. She survived her injuries but died just three years later at age 52. Their descendants moved from the area.
