"James was the humble village blacksmith and became the founder of the mammoth iron plant now located at Conshocken. He died January, 1851, aged 81. He had married the second time and was survived by his wife Ann Warner until January, 1882, when she died age 92. His first wife was Mary Thomas of Plymouth township who bore him 9 children: James, Alan, Catharine, Mark, Mary, Howard, Thomas, Mary and Sarah. The second wife bore him 11 children: Lydia, Charles, John, William W., David L., Thomas C., George F., Ann J., Martha A., Caroline T., and Benedict D. James Wood was therefore the father of 20 children."
