John Andrew Bolander, 72, of Burlington, Iowa died at Great River Medical Center on Thursday morning, November 22, 2012.

Born on June 27, 1940 in Hopper, Illinois, he was the son of James Henry and Sadie Helen Waterman Bolander. He married Inez Hodges on November 24, 1965. They later divorced. He married Emma Lou Loncor on April 25, 1994 in Burlington, Iowa. She died on September 2, 2010.

John served in the U.S. Army seeing action in Vietnam. He worked for Murray Iron Works for 18 years and BNSF Railroad for 15 years. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F. W. Post 10102 and Disabled Veterans. He was very active volunteer in the Special Needs Foundation. He loved fishing, camping, woodworking, painting, ceramics, traveling and most of all, talking to family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, engaging conversation and ever present cup of coffee. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruth (Bill) Link and Tana (Shad) Dixon, both of Burlington, Iowa; two sons, John A. (Maria) Bolander II of Bicknell, Indiana and Raymond W. (Kim) Bolander of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; four brothers, Thomas (Jean) Bolander of San Antonio, Texas, Paul (Florence) Bolander, Wayne (Sherry) Bolander and Harry Bolander, all of Burlington, Iowa; four sisters, Betty (Martin) Brockett of Joplin, Missouri, Esther (Calvin) Reynolds of Burlington, Iowa, Ruby (James) Gott of Wapello, Iowa and Hazel (Wayne) Dixon of Burlington, Iowa; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma; parents; one son, James Robert Bolander; one grandson, Ethan; four brothers, Danny, Albert, Richard & James Bolander.
