S.C. AWBREY IS DEAD---Ankortite Products was Founded By Materials Maker---He Came to Kansas City in 1921--Operation was Performed in Hospital Yesterday

S.C. Awbrey, 5311 Holmes Street, founder and president of Ankortite Products, Inc., a fabricating plant for metal building materials at 2712-16 East Fourteenth street, died late yesterday at St. Luke's Hospital following an operation earlier in the day. He was 62.

Mr. Awbrey had lived in Kansas City nineteen years. In that time he invented and patented many building material devices.

Mr. Awbrey was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, and a former member of the Kansas City Athletic Club. he was a thirty-second degree Mason.

Born in Gadsden, Ala., his early business experience was with the Santa Fe railroad. In El Paso, he left the railroad and became a sales agent for the Colorado Fuel and Iron company. Later he founded a wholesale coal company in El Paso and then went to Fort Smith, Ark., where he established the Radiant Smokeless Fuel Company.

Mr. Awbrey moved to Kansas City in 1921. he remained in the coal business a year, then entered the building materials field.

Associated in the company as vice-president and treasurer is a son, Powell Awbrey, 5500 Reeds Road, Johnson County, Kansas.

Mr. Awbrey leaves also his wife, Mrs. Ethyl Awbrey of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hamm, Norman, OK, and another son, Stuart Awbrey, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Miss Ethel Powell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Powell of 194 East Montecito Avenue, formerly of Patterson, N.J., was quietly married Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension, by the rector, Dr. George Cornell, to Searcy E. Aubrey (Awbrey), of El Paso, Texas. Owing to the recent severe illness of the groom only the immediate relatives of the bride were present.

Mr. Aubrey is a member of the firm of Aubrey & Semple and is prominent and well like among the business men of his own city.

Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey leave Friday morning for a month's trip, taking the coast line to San Francisco, stopping at Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Denver and various other cities. Reaching (They will reach) El Paso about the middle of October, where they will make their home.
