Walter 'Jim' Stevens -- St. Charles

ST. CHARLES -- The funeral for Walter "Jim" Stevens will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's St. Charles Chapel with the Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.

Mr. Stevens, 90, of St. Charles, a retired carpenter, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Aug. 21, 1909, in Dover and after graduating from Dover schools in 1930, he worked for area farmers. Mr. Stevens later became a carpenter, built homes and barns in the area, and also did masonry work. He built the home in St. Charles where he lived for many years before entering Whitewater Healthcare Center in March 1995.

Survivors include two sisters, Rhoda "Tutz" Kahring of Las Vegas, and Lucy Plank of St. Charles. Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour before the service Saturday.
