The town was shocked at the sudden death of A.M. Ferree, who fell dead on the porch of his home Tuesday morning. He was in his usual state of health and preparing to go to his place of business when he was stricken. The doctors pronounced it a heart attack.
Mr. Ferree was 58 years old, the son of Laura Williams and Reuben Ferree who lived at Central Falls for many years, after moving to the eastern part of the county.
Mr. Ferree was one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Asheboro, and was, at the time of his death, a director of the bank. He was also a pioneer peach orchard man of Randolph, having a very fine orchard a few miles south of Asheboro. He was connected with a lumber plant and other business enterprises.
He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Eugenia Tysor, and three daughters, Mrs. Earl F. Craver, of High Point; Mrs. Arthur Burkhead, of Asheboro; and Miss Gertrude Ferree, of Chicago. The sons are: Arris Idyl Ferree, attorney of Asheboro; Earl Ferree of Tampa, FL; and R.S. Ferree of Asheboro.
Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Episcopalian church, of which he was a member. Hundreds of people attended. Burial was in the Asheboro City Cemetery beneath a huge covering of floral tributes.
