JOHNSON, Henry C. Johnson, 104, died Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at the South Roanoke Nursing Home, where he had lived for the last few years. Mr. Johnson was born near Buckhorn, Ky. in 1894 and served in the Army in World War I. He was educated at Berea College and the University of Kentucky, receiving his law degree in 1925. He had been the oldest living graduate of that class. His early career was in politics, when he served as County Attorney for Perry and Letcher Counties in Kentucky. His later work was as an insurance attorney with Bituminous Casualty Co. in Norton, Va. and Roanoke, Va. He married the former Kathryn Stickley in 1927. She preceded him in death in 1996. Their children are Henry Clay Jr., of Malvern, Pa., Frank of Grand Junction, Colo., Nita Dutton of Morristown, Tenn., John of Roanoke, and Dan of Virginia Beach. There are twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnson had been an avid fisherman all his life, and was a member of the International Game Fish Association. He once set an IGFA World Record while fishing off Mexico at age 90. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 3 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 1999. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Visitation will be at Oakey's South Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, and from 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 19 until service time at Oakey's South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Alumni Fund of Berea College, Berea, Kentucky.
