Dr. W. H. Woodson Sr. Dies; Was Hospital Chief Of Staff
Dr. William Hart Woodson, Sr., 66, 1207 Riverside Drive, Newport News, died Sunday in Riverside Hospital after a short illness. He was a former chief of staff at Riverside Hospital. A lifelong Newport News resident, he was a member of First Baptist Church. He started practicing general surgery in 1946 after graduating with a bachelor of science degree from William and Mary, the Medical College of Virginia in 1938 and residency at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was a surgeon in the Navy during World War II. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He retired as an attending surgeon at Riverside Hospital in December 1980, where he had served as chief of staff. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. William L. Tomlinson. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the building fund of First Baptist Church or the Peninsula Heart Association. The family is at the residence. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge.
