Mrs. Petteway was preceded in death by her parents, Hunter Lee Fleming Sr and Hattie Lillian Carr, her husband, the Rev. Warren Bernard Petteway, and her brother, Hunter Lee Fleming Jr.

Harriett retired from her career at BB&T in Wilson to marry Warren Bernard Petteway on June 6, 1975 in Wilson County. They lived in Raleigh, where Warren served the Methodist Conference as Superintendent of the Raleigh District. After serving as minister of Haymount Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Warren and Harriett returned to Raleigh. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Petteway lived at Whitaker Glen Retirement Community and then at Sunrise Assisted Living in Raleigh.

Harriett was a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh. She was an active member of the Wesleyan Fellowship Class. She was an unselfish and giving wife, mother and friend. Family and friends will remember her graciousness, unfailing kindness, and her skill at making anyone feel at ease.
