Revolutionary Patriot
Son of Aaron (1667-1741) and Susannah (Jones) Rawlings ( 1675-1749). He was probably born about 1713, but no proof of his birthdate has been found. He married Elizabeth Tyler (1721-1795) about 1740, probably in Prince George's County, Maryland. They had nine children that are currently documented:
Susannah Rawlings Snodgrass (1742-1820)
Aaron Rawlings (abt. 1743-1827)
Edward Rawlings (abt 1745-1796)
Mary Rawlings Kennedy (abt 1747–? )
Stephen Rawlings (1749-1830)
Priscilla Rawlings Forman (1753-1826)
Elizabeth Rawlings Hedges (1755-1824)
Ruth Rawlings Turner (1757-1814)
Sarah Rawlings Kennedy (abt 1760-aft 1814)

Many say that Stephen's grandfather was Anthony Rawlings, but there is no documented proof of that relationship. In fact, there is not a single male called Anthony in any of Aaron Rawlings's descendants. Instead, there is a steady repetition of Daniel, Moses, Aaron, Edward, and Stephen among the men in the family.

Stephen and Elizabeth were in Berkeley County, now West Virginia, by 1752, when he bought property on Back Creek. Stephen was operating what became known as the Snodgrass Tavern in the 1750s; the tavern was passed to his oldest son-in-law, Robert Snodgrass. The building still stands.
