James Morton Evans, 98, of 19 Sinclair St., Ridgeway, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Blue Ridge Rehab.
He was born May 8, 1908, in Rockingham County, N.C., to Louie Cass Evans and Roxie Claybrook Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Joyce, Dora Craddock and Ester Smith; and four brothers, Dewitte Evans, Harry Evans, Harvey Evans and Kern Evans.
He retired from Pannill Knitting as a foreman after 39 years of service and was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Foley Harris Evans of the home; a daughter, Estell Cox of Ridgeway; two step-daughters, Anne Harris Jones of Pinehurst, N.C. and Stacy Frances Harris Schnabel of King, N.C.; a sister, Minnie Berrier of Mayodan, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. David Schill officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service and other times at the home.
