J. B. Bridendolph


Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist church of John B. Bridendolph, 88, resident of Denison 65 years who retired 24 years ago as a post office employee.


Bridendolph died at a local hospital Thursday afternoon after 5 months of illness, during which he had been in and out of the hospital several times. His home address was 701 West Woodard.


Dr. Bob Ramsay, First Baptist pastor, conducted the funeral and burial was in Fairview cemetery with Johnson-Moore in charge.


Bridendolph was born in Maryland Feb. 2, 1871, and received his schooling at Noberly, Mo. His first work was assisting his father as a plasterer in Kansas City and St. Louis.


Bridendolph's first work here was with the Katy railroad and he shifted to the post office as a carrier in 1899. Later he transferred into the office, first as superintendent of carriers. He was placed in charge of the money order department in 1903, and the postal savings department was added to his assignment when it was established in 1912. Bridendolph continued in that capacity until his retirement July 1, 1935.


Since his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Bridendolph traveled extensively, spending much time in California. They were married at Sherman Sept. 13, 1897. Mrs. Bridendolph, who worked for many years at the Perkins Bros. Store here, formerly was Miss Pearl McDonald of Denton.


Bridendolph was a member of the Baptist church.


The Bridendolph home was at 1204 West Bullock for 36 years, until about a year ago.


Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pearl Bridendolph; a brother, William C. Bridendolph of Manteca, Calif., also a retired Denison postal employee and former assistant postmaster; and a sister, Mrs. Charles Puffer, Kansas City.
