Mabel Flora (Hanse) Nelson was born April 26, 1890 near Webster, Day Co., SD. She was the third of eight children born to Hans and Hannah (Ronshaugen) Hanse. She received her early education in the rural school in Webster, SD and graduated from high school in 1911.

On May 25, 1915 she married Anton C. "A.C." Nelson in Day Co., SD. During the war years they both worked at Mare Island in California. Sometime after the war they moved to Kensal, ND where other family members resided and in 1947 they were operating the grocery store. They had four children. She died July 1, 1957 in Fargo, ND.

She was survived by husband, A.C. Nelson of Kensal, ND; daughters, Mrs. Mabel (Merlin) Johnson, Mrs. Margaret (Earl) Ableidinger and Mrs. Lois (Peder) Florhaug all of Kensel, ND; and son, Elwood Nelson of Wheaton, MN. She was also survived by sisters, Mrs. Thilda Hanson of Shawano, WI, Mrs. Louise Naessig of Webster, SD, Mrs. Ellen Bakkom of Green Bay, WI; and brother, Carl Hanse of MN.

She was preceded in death by father, Hans Hanse in 1921; mother, Hannah Hanse in 1942; brothers, William Hanse in 1957, Hilmer Hanse in 1951 and Lorens Hanse in 1893.
