Billy Bedford Harris, 83, passed away November 19, 2012 in OKC, surrounded by his children. Bill was born in Chickasha, OK on February 9, 1929 to Elmer and Levia Harris. Bill went to live at Baptist Children's Home in 1934 and stayed there until he was about 14 years old. He served in the Navy for 3 years and was discharged in April of 1951. Bill was employed by Humpty Dumpty Grocery Stores where he was a meat cutter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd and sisters, Jackie, Dorothy and Patricia. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy (White) Harris; four children, Roger Harris and wife Ladonna, Gay Lynn Gilles and husband Michael, Gary Harris and wife Pamela and Renee Hicks; 8 grandchildren, Kael, Jordan and Rebecca Gilles, Jeffery and Gregory Harris, Ryan Harris, Brandon and Devin Hicks; and 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia Harris, Ikiah Harris and Zayden Gilles. He is also survived by a brother, LeRoy Harris and 2 sisters, Molly Weaver and Shirley Alf; a stepbrother, Kenneth W. Harris; and stepsisters, Barbara Colbert and Wanda Handel. Bill was a deacon in the Tulakes Baptist Church and also loved to sing in the choir. He loved camping and taking his kids and grandkids with him. Bill spent the last 2 ½ years as a patient at Fidelis Memory Care fighting the ravages of Alzheimer's. We wish to express our thanks to the staff for the excellent care he received and for treating us as family. Viewing will be noon-9pm on Saturday and 11am-9pm on Sunday at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany. Services will be Monday, November 26, 10:00am at Tulakes Baptist Church, Bethany. Interment will be at 2:00pm at Rush Springs Cemetery, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tulakes Baptist Church, 6715 NW 50th St, Bethany, OK 73008 or the Alzheimer's Association.
