She was the daughter of Thomas Larkin and Sedelia J. (Edmondson) Johnson and married Arthur Decatur Barnes - 09 Jun 1907 - Lincoln County, Tennessee. Her obituary follows:

Mrs. Beulah May Johnson Barnes, aged 46 years and wife of Mr. Arthur Barnes, died at their home at Hughey at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday, January 15, 1936. She was a devoted and loyal member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Funeral service was conducted at the Brick Church at Howell by Revs. H. J. Burroughs and N. J. Williamson. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, three sons and two daughters, Sidney, Mitchell, and Gordon Barnes, Mrs. L. B. Derrick and Miss Ernestine Barnes; her mother, Mrs. S. J. Johnson; three sisters and a brother, Miss Irene Johnson, Mrs. Herman Hill, Mrs. Paul Grimes, and Jess Johnson.
