Joseph M. "Joe" Akins, 44, of Piqua, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at his residence. He was born September 30, 1968 in Piqua.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Janet Galligan-Dent and Mark Dent of Logan; his grandmother, Dorothy Galligan of Piqua; a sister, Melinda Akins of Columbus; a nephew Caleb Akins; two aunts, Connie Martin and Karen (Randy) Eisenzimmer of Piqua; and numerous cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph Galligan.

Joe attended Piqua Central High School and the Upper Valley JVS. He had previously worked at the former Medalist-Allen A Company.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 23, at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
