Donald Dean "Cowboy" Longnecker was born November 10, 1932 on a farm near Winside to Ernest Royce and Lottie (Soules) Longnecker. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church at Winside. Donald graduated from Winside High School in 1951 then farmed and trucked until entering the military. He served in The United States Air Force from November 14, 1952 to October 7, 1956 and the reserves for four years. Donald married Elsie (Wylie) Rehmus December 2, 1966 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Winside. He helped to build Rice Auditorium at Wayne State College, did mechanics for Winside Motors, and returned to trucking until December 1990. Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church and Winside American Legion Post #252. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports (especially Nebraska football), but most of all his family.

Donald is survived by his wife, Elsie; daughters, Barbara (Stanley) Stenwall, Janice (Robert) Bowers, and Lisa (Kevin) Cleveland of Winside; daughter-in-law, Jeanine (Douglas) Chaney all of Winside; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; cousin, Janet Longnecker; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Eugene; cousin, Richard Longnecker; and son, Russell.

Donald's family appreciates your thoughts and kindness and invites you to lunch in the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Winside following the committal service.

He passed away Monday at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk.
