Betty was born June 8, 1932, in Newkirk, to Sidney D. and Ethel M. (Evinger) Patterson. Although the doctors said she wouldn't last the day of her birth, she proved them wrong by 80 years. Betty attended school in Arkansas City.

Betty worked for Binney & Smith Crayola factory, Winfield State Hospital & Training Center and Harmond's Squares & Levels.

She married Charles Harris in 1981, and they made their home in Douglass. Betty worked as a meat wrapper at the Douglass Locker for 13 years. After the business was sold, she made her career as a homemaker. She also volunteered with the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Sunflower home extension unit.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and traveling with her husband in their RV.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Patterson, and her sisters, Edith Barg and Barbara Bays.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Harris, of the home; her children and their families, Monica Pullmann, Council Bluff, Iowa, and her daughter, Michael Batten, and husband, Dustin, El Paso, Texas; Robyn McCollum, Winfield, and her children, Andrea Ledford, and husband, Donnie, Hesston, their children, Zackerie, Jakeb and Bethany Ledford, and Amy Swords, and husband, Todd, Corydon, Ind., and their children, Jaydn, Gracia and Zoey Swords; Stephen O.
