Mr. Gabriel Benedict died at his home in North Walton last Sunday morning. He was born at the residence of his maternal grandfather, Judge Gabriel North, on Delaware Street, Walton, Sept. 10,1807. When a young man he moved with his parents to North Walton, and subsequently with them made a home by clearing and cultivating a farm of new land at Woodlawn. Some years after his marriage he exchanged his Woodlawn farm for the Daniel White farm, the former home of his wife, where he lived until his death. On June,15,1848, he married Miss Eliza A. White, who died October 1890. They were the parents of four children. Hannah, the oldest, died at the age of twenty-two. The others, Misses Alice and Lucy, and William A., survive their father.

His bodily vigor had become impaired by reason of age before the death of his wife, and subsequently his mental powers failed till he became unable to care for himself, but the faithful and loving attention of his son and daughters was unremitting, and all was done that was possible on his behalf. Mr. Benedict united with the North Walton Congregational Church in early manhood, and all through his life was a highly esteemed and beloved member, who honored his Christian profession by strict integrity, and an ever readiness to do to others as he would that others should do to him. As a husband, father, friend and neighbor he was held in high esteem by all who knew him well. The funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. F. W. Dickinson. Burial in Walton Cemetery.
