Edythe M. Haag Carpenter, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Skill Care Nursing Home.,

She was born February 27, 1923, in Lake City, AR., to the late Hugh Patterson and Lillie Mae Miller Haag.

Edy and her first husband, James Wright, owned a Liberty supermarket in Holly Spring, Mississippi for twenty-one years. She moved back to Jonesboro in 1967.

Edy married Earl Carpenter Jr. when he moved to Jonesboro in 1970. She was a retired secretary from Arkansas State University. She was an active member of Nettleton Baptist Church and also taught Sunday School.

She is survived by a step-son, Daniel L. Carpenter (Linda) of Holly Springs, MS; a step-daughter, Donna Carpenter Allely of Holly Spring; a step-granddaughter, Penny Carpenter Lomenick (Bob); two great grandchildren, Erin and Eli Lomenick.

She was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Wright and Earl Carpenter Jr.; a brother, Herman N. Haag.

A celebration of her life was held at Nettleton Baptist Churc. Entombment was at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
