My Aunt Dorothy worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company in Maryville and in Knoxville. She moved to Chicago with her first husband. When he died unexpectedly at a young age, Dorothy returned to Knoxville and lived with her sister Eunice Carter Sims and her children in Knoxville for several years. She later married Arthur Vernon and moved to upstate NY. After he died, she returned to Tennessee. Dorothy developed cancer, and my mother (Eunice Carter Sims Davis) cared for her on their farm in Ozark, AL until she died in 1983, age 65.
