Leslie W. "Curley" Quarles of Jeffrey City died Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2008, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He was 82.

Leslie Wayne Quarles was born in Gray County, Texas, on Aug. 3, 1926, the son of Leslie Leon Quarles and Francis (Barton) Quarles. He attended elementary school in Webb, Texas. He was a Lefors (Tex.) High School graduate.

Following high school graduation, Mr. Quarles joined the U.S. Navy and was shipped to Okinawa, Japan, during World War II.

On Jan. 27, 1948, he married Senora Ellen Smith. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 1996. On Sept. 15, 1996, he married Judy (Cohee) Graham in Lander.

He worked as a driller/pumper for 30 years and retired from Amoco in 1985.

He lived on Happy Springs in southeastern Fremont County, where he hunted jade. He had also lived in Bairoil, Crooks Gap, and Riverton.

Mr. Quarles had been baptized as a Christian.

His family said he enjoyed rock hunting, he liked hunting with his hounds, liked to chase wild horses in his younger days, enjoyed hunting big game and birds, fishing, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Quarles was a past member and president of both the Wyoming Gem Society and of the Wyoming Hound Association.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Billy Wayne Quarles and his wife Patricia of Amarillo, Texas, Stephen Quarles and his wife Patty, John Quarles and his wife Bobbie, all of Riverton, John Graham and his wife Melinda of Byron, and Jimmy Graham and his wife Dawn of Lander; a daughter, Barbara Sue Davis and her husband Bill of Riverton; 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; brothers, H.P. Quarles and his wife Roberta of Lander, and Johnny Quarles and his wife Luwanna of Lubbock, Texas; sisters, Eddie Mae Sargent of Bay Town, Texas, and Frankie Derr and her husband Bill of Bartlesville, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Beverly Carbon and Cynthia Quarles; sisters, Clara Hupp, Gecie Howard, and Bertie Ruthhardt; brothers, Winn Quarles and George Quarles.
