Deams M. Howell, 70, of 3166 NC 111 North (Patetown Road), died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held tonight at 7:30 at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Committal services will be held at 11am at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Dock Hobbs will officiate.

Mr. Howell was a native of Wayne County and was the son of the late Orin E. and Lila Pate Howell. He served in the 8th US Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer for 23 1/2 years and was presently serving as trustee. He served in the 8th US Air Force during World War II.

In a few days, he and his wife, Edna Sullivan Howell, would have been married 50 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene Howell Gurley and Wayne Gurley of Pikeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert E. and Sharon Bartlett Howell of Goldsboro; a sister, Pauline Howell Batts of Rocky Mount; his stepmother, Ethel Herring Howell of Goldsboro; two half brothers, Ralph Howell and Wayne Howell of Goldsboro; and four granddaughters and a grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Children's Home Society of NC, PO Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415-4608, or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 925, Goldsboro, NC 27533.
