A Missouri Congressman-Elect Unable to Rally from a Dangerous Operation.
Shelbina. Mo., Nov. 18. Congressman-elect R. P. Giles died at his home here to-day of a tumor resulting from perforation of the bowels superinduced by typhoid fever, just after an operation performed yesterday by Kansas City and other neighboring physicians. Mr. Giles was born in Hardin county, Ky., June 20, 1846. His father, Dr. Granville T. Giles, moved with the family to Monroe county, Mo. In 1873 young Giles moved to this town, where he lived till his death. He was a democrat from the start. In 1892 he was defeated in convention by Congressman Hatch, whom he defeated this year, being elected two weeks.
